“I have something to show you” she says, handing me a piece of paper. I was at A’s school today observing him in his classroom. His speech therapist came to get him for therapy and she handed me the note.

I looked down at the words on the page, a lump formed in my throat and tears blurred my vision almost immediately. I knew what this was and who it came from.

A few weeks ago A’s speech therapist went with one of the autism specialists from our district to meet with a young man who has been using facilitated communication for several years now.  She wanted to see how it works and how it looks.  She, understandably, wanted to witness FC firsthand and talk to those who use it and support it. She wanted to get more comfortable with it.
